How to unblock Discord in Brazil

If Discord won't work in Brazil, you're not alone: it has been partly blocked since Aug 2026. Here's how to get it back with Proton VPN, one step at a time.

Short answer

Use Proton VPN, connect to the United States, then open Discord.

We picked Proton VPN because it's the best fit for Discord here: swiss-based with open-source apps and a free tier, plus a Stealth protocol for restrictive networks.

Try Proton VPN

Why Discord doesn't work in Brazil

Discord has been partly blocked in Brazil since Aug 2026. Video calls, screen sharing and livestreams suspended; text and voice still work.

All major apps work; under-16s need parental consent for social media since March 2026.

Is a VPN legal in Brazil? Legal. VPN use is legal. During the 2024 X ban, a fine was threatened for using a VPN to reach X specifically.

Step by step with Proton VPN

  1. Install and sign in

Install Proton VPN on the phone or computer where you use Discord, then sign in.

  2. Check the protocol

Leave the protocol on Smart (the default) for the best speed.

  3. Connect to a nearby server

Connect to a server in the United States, Mexico or Chile. Discord works normally in these countries, and nearby servers are faster.

  4. Open Discord and join a voice channel

Text should load first. Voice uses a different connection, so if voice fails, reconnect the VPN to another server.

  5. Leave the VPN on

Keep Proton VPN connected while you use Discord. If you disconnect, the block applies again.

Tip: Discord voice is sensitive to distance: pick the nearest server that works.

If it still doesn't work

  • Force-close Discord and open it again after the VPN connects.
  • Try another server in the same country.
  • Turn off your browser's or phone's "private DNS" setting if it overrides the VPN.

Or try another VPN

Private Internet Access Connects

Leave the protocol on WireGuard (the default) for the best speed.

NordVPN Connects

Leave the protocol on NordLynx (the default). You don't need obfuscation for this block.
