Real vs virtual: what it means for you
A server in the country gives the best speed for local sites and the most reliable local IP. A virtual location still shows sites a Myanmar IP address, so it works for most local services and prices, but traffic travels to the real server first, and that country's laws apply to the hardware.
Using a VPN inside Myanmar: Illegal or effectively banned. A 2025 cybersecurity law made unlicensed VPN use a criminal offence, and phones have been checked for VPN apps.
Questions people ask
Does any VPN have servers in Myanmar?
None of the six VPNs we track lists a server physically in Myanmar. NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, Proton VPN, CyberGhost and Private Internet Access offer a virtual Myanmar location: you get an IP address registered to Myanmar, but the server sits in another country.
What is a virtual server location?
A virtual location gives you an IP address registered to the country you pick, while the server itself runs in a nearby country with better infrastructure. Sites usually see you as being in that country, but speed depends on the real location, and data is handled under that country's laws.
Can I get a Myanmar IP address with a VPN?
Yes, with NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark, Proton VPN, CyberGhost and Private Internet Access.
