How to unblock PUBG Mobile in India

Getting PUBG Mobile working in India takes about five minutes. You need a VPN that can get past the block, and we use NordVPN below.

Short answer

Use NordVPN, connect to Singapore, then open PUBG Mobile.

We picked NordVPN because it's the best fit for PUBG Mobile here: largest network of the six, with the NordWhisper protocol for networks that inspect traffic.

Why PUBG Mobile doesn't work in India

PUBG Mobile has been blocked in India since Sep 2020. Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) is the licensed local version.

TikTok and hundreds of Chinese apps have been banned since 2020, and India leads the world in regional internet shutdowns.

Is a VPN legal in India? Legal. VPN use is legal, but 2022 CERT-In rules require providers to keep user logs. Many VPNs, including NordVPN, Proton VPN and Surfshark, removed physical Indian servers in response.

Step by step with NordVPN

  1. Install and sign in

Install NordVPN on the phone or computer where you use PUBG Mobile, then sign in.

  2. Check the protocol

Leave the protocol on NordLynx (the default). You don't need obfuscation for this block.

  3. Connect to a nearby server

Connect to a server in Singapore, Japan or Netherlands. PUBG Mobile works normally in these countries, and nearby servers are faster.

  4. Restart the game and log in

Fully close the game, then open it again with the VPN connected so it picks up the new route.

  5. Leave the VPN on

Keep NordVPN connected while you use PUBG Mobile. If you disconnect, the block applies again.

Tip: Pick the nearest working server: every extra country between you and the game server adds ping.

If it still doesn't work

  • Turn off your browser's or phone's "private DNS" setting if it overrides the VPN.
  • Force-close PUBG Mobile and open it again after the VPN connects.
  • Try another server in the same country.
