How to unblock Voice & video calls in Oman

Voice & video calls is blocked in Oman. The fix that works for most people is a VPN, and Proton VPN is the one we recommend here.

Short answer

Use Proton VPN, connect to Germany, then open Voice & video calls.

We picked Proton VPN because it's the best fit for Voice & video calls here: swiss-based with open-source apps and a free tier, plus a Stealth protocol for restrictive networks.

Why Voice & video calls doesn't work in Oman

Voice & video calls is blocked in Oman. Inconsistent since Dec 2024.

Is a VPN legal in Oman? Legal with restrictions. Only licensed apps and services are officially allowed; personal VPN use is not clearly addressed in law.

Step by step with Proton VPN

  1. Install and sign in

Install Proton VPN on the phone or computer where you use Voice & video calls, then sign in.

  2. Check the protocol

Leave the protocol on Smart (the default) for the best speed.

  3. Connect to a nearby server

Connect to a server in Germany, Netherlands or Switzerland. Voice & video calls works normally in these countries, and nearby servers are faster.

  4. Make a test call

Start a short call with the VPN connected. If audio cuts out, switch the VPN to a TCP-based protocol and try again: call traffic is the easiest kind for networks to spot.

  5. Leave the VPN on

Keep Proton VPN connected while you use Voice & video calls. If you disconnect, the block applies again.

Tip: Keep the VPN on for the whole call. Turning it off mid-call usually drops the call.
