What's going on
Freedom House rates Malawi's internet Partly Free (61/100 in Freedom on the Net 2025) with no blocked platforms. In January 2025 the regulator MACRA signed a contract for a misinformation-tracking system, and two politicians were arrested in 2024 over audio clips shared online. High data prices are the biggest barrier to getting online.
